Although Dutchess Day has no swimming pool, once a year the school  “fields” a team to compete against Maplebrook School in Amenia. On March 5, the DDS team, with Athletic Director and coach Nigel Pink, travelled to Maplebrook to race their team in that school’s indoor pool. The Millbrook Blazers girls’ volleyball team gave their coach, Sean Stoliker, the best of  birthday presents - a sweep of Dobbs Ferry in the New York State Class C quarterfinals.

The scores were 25-18, 25-21 and 25-19.

Screams and loud cheering followed the winning shot as the Blazers celebrated their victory with hugs and high fives all around.

The Millbrook Blazers’s 22–16 loss to the James I. O’Neill team in the first round of the playoffs on Friday, although disappointing, should in no way detract from what has otherwise been a triumphant season. Spike, set, ace, mine—this is the volleyball jargon one hears on a visit to the Millbrook High School gymnasium on a weekday afternoon.  The Blazers’ girls' varsity volleyball team is getting in shape for sectionals after a season of ups and downs.
