The New York Times(12/4/16) carried the obituary of John R. Hupper who died at the age of 92 on November 24. He was known as Jack. He and his wife Joyce spent weekends on Kennel Road in Millbrook for many years when he was a partner at Cravath, Swaine & Moore.
Jack took a deep interest in the people he worked with and in his circle of friends. He was frequently seen at the at the Metropolitan Opera, the NY Philharmonic and also at Glimmerglass.
He was known as a lawyer’s lawyer with the highest of standards in the profession. He was demanding, precise and took the practice of law as a calling. He served on numerous committees in the legal profession including the Committee on Character and Fitness. He was a graduate of Bowdin and Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Law Review.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, three children, John Hupper, Jr., Gail and Craig and four grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.
