We recently learned of the death of Joellyn Duesberry, an important American artist who made Millbrook her home in the 1970’s where she could be seen painting in the fields capturing the landscape in watercolors and oils. She was a regular visitor to Millbrook, spending time in her cottage overlooking the fields and hills around Fraleigh Hill Road. Many of her paintings hang on Millbrook walls. She was also a regular visitor to the Maine coast where she captured the feeling of the coastline. She made Colorado her home after marrying Ira J. Kowal. She was represented by Graham Gallery in New York. Her style of minimizing the horizon and focusing on the contours and colors of the land in which she found Cezanne like abstractions made her paintings recognizable. She died on August 5 after a protracted illness.
