Julia Bullock, the star of the Peter Sellars performance piece that had a one day run at Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival, moves on to Brooklyn’s Roulette on September 6 where she sings a text by Wallace Stevens to music by David Hertzberg, Lucas Foss and John Cage. She will be part of the annual Resonant Bodies Festival where young singers and instrumentalists perform mostly new music.
It’s a three day festival, Sept 6 – 8. Joining Julia Bullock on day one is Alice Teyssier, a singer and flutist and Sofia Jernberg, an Ethiopian-born Swedish composer/vocalst/improvisor who will be making her New York debut.
On the evenings of Sept 7 Abagail Fischer, Peter Tantsits and Dashon Burton perform works by composers that include Missy Massoli, Anna Thorvaldsdottir Henry Purcell, George Aperghis and Stockhausen.
The final night one can hear vocalists Fraulke Aulbert, Sophia Burgos and Charlotte Mundy singing works by Leroux, Berio, Zesses Seglias, Erin Gee and others.
Lucy Dhegrae, a Bard Conservatory graduate and director of Resonant Bodies, describes the festival as a way to hear expert contemporary vocalists singing their own repertoire. The selected composers will give listeners a good cross section of the varied nature of new music. http://www.resonantbodiesfestival.org. Past festival performances can be seen on the website.
Roulette is at 509 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn. Performances start at 7:30 pm
