Patricia Beard will be signing books at Merritt Bookstore this coming Saturday at 4 pm. Beard's new book Newsmaker tells the story of UPI founder Roy Howard who gave Walter Cronkite his start. Beard has had access to Howard's personal diaries, which were extensive. Howard had confidential interviews with top American politicians like FDR and Wendell Willkie, as well as leading international politicians around the globe. These diaries are brutally frank and honest. Beard offers the inside story of American journalism in the twentieth century, giving the reader a clear notion of what information was released to the public and what information was not. This book is highly recommended to anyone interested in American history and world history in the twentieth century.
Beard is an accomplished writer, the author of ten books, including Blue Blood & Mutiny: The Fight for the Soul of Morgan Stanley and After the Ball: Gilded Age Secrets, Boardroom Betrayals, and The Ball that Ignited the Great Wall Street Scandal of 1905.
