Melvin Chen plays new music at Bard

Mon Nov 23rd, 2015

Melvin Chen, Pianist

Pianist Melvin Chen, founding associate director of the Bard Conservatory, has performed in major venues in the United States and abroad. He now teaches piano at the Yale School of Music. His recital will premiere a work by Jason Freeman that merges live music with electronic manipulation, using a program that creates new bits of music based on what’s already been played. Also included are Earle Brown’s open-score “December 1952,” an untitled work by Jaroslaw Kapuscinski with video collaboration, and Schubert’s Sonata in G Major. The concert is Monday, November 30 at 8 p.m. in the Laszlo Z. Bito Conservatory Building.
