Lingering kiss of sunset

Cyprus trees comb blue air

as I turn a page in a book,

while a hawk circles above

cleaving azure air with elegance.

With that upstart fantasy

of passing time standing still

like a red rose blooming

carelessly in patio flower pot,

pleasure arrives in slow waves

of bewildering, undulating repose,

sunset gilding red wine glass

as a tiny fruit fly circles

filigreed wrought iron table

with frantic, transient impulse.
