Hotchkiss Summer Portals Concerts

Hotchkiss Summer Portals Program for students covers a whole range of subjects from astronomy to robotics, theater to music, and numerous other subjects. The most well-known program that admits students from all over the globe, remains the Piano Portals program because it offers free public concerts.

The Sixth Anniversary Gala Concert will be celebrated at Elfers Hall on this coming Sunday, July 15, at 4 pm. renowned for her Romantic virtuosity at the keyboard and once considered “The best kept secret of the Soviet Union.” Ms. Yablonskaya has now performed in more than 40 countries.  Oxana Yablonskaya, a former piano teacher at Hotchkiss will play: Mozart - Rondo in A Minor, K. 511; Beethoven; Sonata in D Major, op. 10 No. 3; Beethoven - Sonata in E Major, op. 109; Brahms - Rhapsodies op. 79.

Yuri Bogdanov (born 1972), an assistant to Professor A. Nasedkin at the Moscow Conservatoire will play Wednesday, July 18, at Elfers Hall, 7:30 pm:  Bach - Partita No. 6 in E Minor, BWV 830 Mendelssohn - Rondo Capriccioso Tchaikovsky - The Seasons Scriabin - 2 Poems op. 32, Prelude op. 9 No. 1, Etude op. 8 No. 12. Yuri currently is Professor at the Moscow State Chopin Music College. He regularly gives master classes in Russian cities and abroad, including Hotchkiss this summer. He gave his first public piano concert at the age of five. He has won numerous Russian and international awards and has several CD recordings. Radio and TV appearances of Yuri Bogdanov have been broadcast nationwide in Russia. As a soloist of the Moscow State Philharmonic, he gives recitals and performs with orchestras in the best concert halls of Russia (including the Big Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire and Tchaikovsky Concert Hall).

On Saturday, July 21, at Elfers Hall, 7:30 pm, Fabio and Gisele Witkowski with the Fine Arts Quartet will perform: Dvořák - Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, op. 87; Dvořák - Piano Quintet in A Major, op. 81. This isThe Frederick and Mary Tanner Frank Concert in their memory.

Leonel Morales will play on Monday, July 23, at 7:30 p.m. Click for a review of his amazing concert last year.  

On July 24 selected students will perform their debut at Carnegie Hall. This is the first time that students will play in Manhattan.

Leonel Morales-Herrero (b. 1995), who has won numerous European awards, will also perform on Thursday, July 26, at 7:30 pm in Elfers Hall. Recently, he won First Prize in the “Lyon International Piano Competition” (2016. France); he also obtained First Prizes in the “International Piano Competition MozaARTe” (2016. Germany), “César Franck.”

The Grand Finale Concert will be held on Saturday, July 28, 7:30 pm, at Elfers Hall.
