Pine Plains CROP Hunger Walk Raises Funds for Food Locker, Hunger Relief Programs

The Pine Plains CROP Hunger Walk will be held on Sunday, October 9.

The Church World Service’s CROP Hunger Walks—more than a thousand Walks annually nationwide—raise funds to support critical hunger and water programs as well as sustainable grassroots development, disaster relief, and disaster refugee assistance at home and abroad. Sponsored locally by the Pine Plains Council of Churches, our Walk responds to need in our own community, with 25% of all funds raised by the Walk going directly to the Pine Plains Food Locker.

Walkers will follow a scenic route around Stissing Lake. Peck’s Market in Pine Plains has generously supplied bottled water for walkers, and apples and cookies are also available for participants. A bake sale will be held during Walk hours.

Working with partners in the United States and around the world—without regard to religious affiliation or belief—the Church World Service seeks to eradicate hunger and poverty and promote peace and justice. The Pine Plains Council of Churches includes four local congregations: the Episcopal Church of the Regeneration, First United Presbyterian Church of Pine Plains, Pine Plains United Methodist Church, and Church of Immaculate Conception—St. Anthony.

Online donations are very welcome! Those who would like to participate but can’t attend are encouraged to donate online at  Pledge envelopes may be obtained from PPCC member churches and at Lions Club on the day of the Walk. Donations can be accepted up to two weeks following the Walk, that is, until October 25.
