Many Millbrook area folks were saddened to learn of the death of Bill Cunningham, a photographer whose pictures of social life had included many residents here as subjects. They had appeared in a special section of The New York Times for something like 40 years. Bill had a special touch, taking informal, often unposed shots of people he thought attractive or especially interesting in dress or attitude.
He was a regular at the Fitch’s Corners events. He attended polo games, Sporting Fairs at Mashomack and benefits galore. He has been the subject of a film and of many articles on his life. He adored taking pictures. His portfolio is a history of the New York social scene and of fashion, both high and low. He is irreplaceable – no one can fill his shoes.
