Author Artist John Scofield to talk about Robert Motherwell at the Kent Memorial Library

On Saturday, November 21 at 3:00 p.m. at the Kent Memorial Library Sharon author and artist John E. Scofield will discuss and sign copies of his recently published book “Robert Motherwell – In The Studio,” an account of his time in the 1970s as studio assistant to the abstract expressionist painter Robert Motherwell. 

For over thirty years John E. Scofield has worked as an artist and designer both in the United States and Europe. His Folding Music Stand is in the permanent Design Collection of the Museum of Modern Art. From 2002 to 2006 Scofield was the artist-in-residence and overall design coordinator for the construction of Kent Village Barns in Kent, CT. 

Since 1995 he has led seminars for a course entitled “Topics in Ancient Furniture” at the Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, New York City. In 2010 Scofield, along with fourteen European artists, participated in televised panel discussions on contemporary design in Shunde, Southern China. 

Scofield lives in Sharon with his wife, Bartley Johnstone, owner of B. Johnstone & Co. in Kent, and their daughter Evie.
