Volume 4 Issue 26

One of the few New York chefs ever to earn four stars from the New York Times, once named “Best Chef in New York City” and later inducted into the Culinary Institute’s Restaurant Hall of Fame, Gray Kunz has a home here in Clinton Corners. I interviewed him this weekend.  So how was it that you were born in Singapore and raised in Switzerland?
The North East Community Center (NECC), sponsor of the popular Millerton Farmers Market, is opening a second market in Amenia, NY. Funded by a Fresh Connect grant from New York State,  “Share the Bounty Farmers Market” will open on Tuesday, July 3, and will operate every Tuesday morning from 9 am to 1 pm, on the grounds of Hudson River Healthcare (HRHC).
While owner Chris Steiner cooks up some wonderful BBQ, terrific chili and a host of great soups and sandwiches (I am partial to the Grilled Cheese on Texas Toast, melting both Swiss and Cheddar cheeses), I find it hard to resist his corn bread. Not too sweet, never heavy, it is mouthwateringly good. I think you will find most of his regulars agreeing with me! By the way, his smoothies are lovely way to beat the heat.

The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival opened their beautiful portrayal of Romeo & Juliet Sunday July 1. The over two-hour performance was fresh and deeply emotional.

For those of you hesitant to see yet another rendition of Romeo & Juliet – an often overused classic, the HVSF brings it to new life in a stirring way.
